So, should we say that via Netflix’s latest first Indian original, Sacred Games, a new era has begun for Indian TV Cinema? I guess so, YES!
With such a strong star-cast and punching storyline, the show has set the bar high. We have got a show like Narcos of our own.
Sacred Games’ dark, gritty, gruesome, violent and unashamedly raw portrayal of a crime thriller will make you go nail biting in every scene.
The blended use of local languages such as Marathi, Punjabi and Hindi has given a different touch to the show altogether. With this, local audiences will be able to connect with the show even more.
With this season, the series has shown a beautiful contrast between life of a Mumbai’s powerful mafia ‘Ganesh Eknath Gaitonde’ played by Nawazuddin Siddiqui and a weathered police officer Sartaj Singh, played by Saif Ali Khan. It is much-much more than any other crime thriller and reveals some of the Mumbai’s deepest secrets with a high dosage show of sex, drugs, glamour and violence.
Anurag Kashyap and Vikramaditya Motwane, both have done an excellent job in directing two different storylines at a same time. No other directors would have brought life to the show as these two. I would also like to give a special mention to the name of the episodes, amazing job done.
Saif Ali Khan is back in form with his extra ordinary performance as an honest police officer, who very much believes in the righteousness of the law. With a failed marriage and no recognition for his many years of service the Mumbai Police, he finds himself in a situation where he has a chance to prove his worth in lieu to save the city from a major threat.
What to say about Nawaz. With each of his role, he makes you jaw dropped. This time he has killed it totally with his legendary work. He has delivered one of the best dialogues in the show with utmost dramatic arc, and the lingual freedom to go wherever he wants with it. He will be remembered for this piece of art throughout his career. Just for him I watched the show twice. There is no actor in the Bollywood who manifests a dark character better than Nawaz. Together with Kashyap, they are banging the floors!
Radhika Apte and Jitendra Joshi have played some of the major roles and both are flawless. Jitendra Joshi has shined as a Marathi cop in the show.
The series have shown immense roster of talent and left us with many open questions and promise of something even more power packed for the next season.
