Star Trek Beyond is an upcoming American science fiction action film and the sequel to Star Trek Into Darkness (2013). It is the thirteenth film in the Star Trek film franchise and the third installment in the reboot series. The film is directed by Justin Lin from a screenplay by Simon Pegg and Doug Jung, based on the series of the same name created by Gene Roddenberry, with J.J. Abrams and Roberto Orci, respectively director and co-writer of the two previous films, returning as producers alongside Bryan Burk. Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto reprise their roles as Captain James T. Kirk and Commander Spock, with Simon Pegg, Karl Urban, Zoe Saldana, John Cho and Anton Yelchin reprising their roles from the previous film. Idris Elba, Sofia Boutella, and Shohreh Aghdashloo also join the film’s principal cast. Principal photography began on June 25, 2015, in Vancouver.The film is scheduled for a July 22, 2016, release.
Premise
After stopping off at Starbase Earhart, a remote outpost on the fringes of Federation space, the USS Enterprise, halfway into their five-year mission is heavily attacked by a powerful, unstoppable wave of unknown aliens and the crew are forced to abandon ship. With the crew stranded on a unknown planet and with no apparent means of rescue, they find themselves in conflict with a new ruthless enemy who has a well-earned hatred of the Federation and what it stands for.
